Villa Thalatta-Thalatta , which took its name
from Xenophon’s well-known phrase, is built
in idyllic natural environment with wonderful
view , nearly at the edge of a cliff and its style
is totally based on the traditional stone-built
architecture of KEA, offering ideal
accommodation.
Out of respect to the culture of all Cyclades
islands chain , we don’t offer useless opulence .
Thalatta-Thalatta , on the contrary, is equipped
with comfortable and handy accommodation
spaces together with its unique attraction.
Α small theatre which is situated just in front of
the endless Aegean sea blue . This small theatre
was the main reason why the directors of the
cultural organization ARCADIA decided to award
us the first prize as being the only place in
Europe where natural beauty and civilization co-
exist .
Villa “Thalatta-Thalatta” in an effort to honour
some of the famous visitors who have been
hosted in our premises, has named after them
three of its rooms . The first one is given the
name of the famous travel writer Patrick Lee
Fermor, the second the name of the Argentinian
writer Horhe Louis Borhes and the third one the
name of the Greek painter George Stathopoulos.

Villa Thalatta-Thalatta is situated at the
north-east side of the island, in the
region of Kastri, about 10 km from the
island’s port which is approached by ships
either from Laurio or from other Greek
islands
The villa covers about 120 m2 out of
a total area of 6000 m2 , 40 m2
swimming pool with astonished view
and is surrounded by 200 m2 of
verandas , part of which is covered with
built pergolas in order to provide the
necessary sun protection .
The whole construction is based on the
stone-built architecture of the island
having as its main priority to promote
the natural beauty of the environment
and the spectacular view .
The villa is able to host up to 7 adults
and provides whatever it needs so as to
make the visitor feel relaxed

place in Europe where natural beauty and civilization co-exist . The region is included in NATURA
programme and has been characterized as a place of infinite beauty .
Thalatta-Thalatta is regarded as an architectural accomplishment and is built at the edge of a cliff next to
the magic nature of the island of KEA at Kastri, just about 10Km from the island’s port.

In 2015 Villa Thalatta-Thalatta was awarded bronze prize for the rocky swimming
pool we constructed taking into account the water supplies of the island and
adjusting this small swimming pool to the aesthetics of the surroundings.
We managed to carry a 16 tone rock from the local quarry, placed it at
the edge of the cliff and patiently worked it out so as to create a small
swimming pool just for 3-4 people who will be able to enjoy a drink
admiring the sunset and the marvelous sea view.
Even for this small pool we don’t waste any water since it is actually
rainy water collected in special tanks. It falls in the swimming pool in the
form of a waterfall and after its use it is collected again and reused to water
plants and trees

2015
In 2016 Villa Thalatta-Thalatta won the ‘Innovation prize’ in the big Tourist
awards for our notion regarding the welcoming of our visitors .
Each of our visitors is offered a basket containing fruit, honey, jam, KEA
breakfast etc and a bottle of oil which is one of the best in the whole
world , according to the University of Athens (see more ..) !!
At the same time an olive tree which is given the name of the visitor is
planted.
The visitor is able to watch the growth of the tree and the following year,
as long he/she wishes, may inspect its fertility. This way we symbolize the
contact we have to keep with our roots and the Greek ZEN.

they saw the sea …
History
… Thalatta-Thalatta
In the summer of 401 BC , Kyros , the Satrap (master) of Lydia made a movement to overthrow his
brother and big King , Artaxerxes .
He had the support of his mother, Parysatis , and a secret military body of about 13500 soldiers
known as “Myrioi” .
In the battle of Kounaxa, Kyros was killed.
During the battle, Spartians under the leadership of Klearchos managed to beat the left side of
Artaxerxes’ army but taken into account the death of Kyros this was of no importance .
Kyros’ army was found in a very difficult situation, with their leader dead, in a totally hostile
environment, with no food and about 800 km from whatever could be characterized safe and
friendly
18 months later the soldiers managed to reach Trapezounta , then
Byzantio of the Black Sea and finally South Greece . All the above are
described in an excellent way by Xenophon. If there is something that
goes beyond the historical description, is a real lesson of crisis
management. The three elements which saved the lives of about 8500
men were:
First, the hope of returning back home, with the totally clear goal to find
sea which would lead them safely back to Greece
The cry ‘Thalatta-Thalatta’ meant the success of the operation.
Persistence in the hope of returning home was the element which
permitted the men to withstand the battles , weather conditions , trends
of disappointment and pressure exerted on them from their own
comrades.

“ The return of Myrioi ”
Second, we mustn’t forget that the organization and discipline of the soldiers stem from Sparta .
This fact was the main reason why they all together acted and behaved as one and only person .
They remained united even in the most difficult moments when their leaders , Klearhos
included, were arrested and killed by Tisafernis .
They didn’t give up, elected Hirisofos as their new leader and went on.
Third, the strategy to change directions so as to meet the least possible resistance.
The way to the North was full of obstacles such as hostile tribes , rivers and the endless
mountains of Taurus . So the soldiers had to move either to the east or to the west but always
aiming at the North .
Xenophon describes all this route and keeps history alive through the ages
… one of the most magical shelters
in Europe …

KEA , better known as TZIA , is a very beautiful island which is the closest to Attica from all Cyclades.
You can reach Kea in just 60 minutes from Laurio’s port , that’s why it is considered an ideal
destination even for one day excursion from Athens.

and religious places.

All over the island you can see churches, monasteries and shipwrecks with exceptional historical

The history of Kea, is like the most of Greek islands connected to Greek
Mythology and the science of Archaeology has never stopped discovering
new sides of it.
The oldest signs of people living on the island have been discovered in the
region of Kefala and in St.Irini’s peninsula
These are signs that the island played a vital role in the pre-historic Aegean
sea .
The first man to live on the island is regarded to be a man from Nafpaktos ,
named Keos .
It is obvious that the island was named after him Its former name was
Idrousa .
Very important for Kea were the four ancient cities which were developed after their Ionian colonization. Ioulis , Korissos ,
Karthaia and Poiiessa .
We must not forget to mention the political system of Kea which was so important that Aristotelis wrote a whole book about it
, named ‘Kion Politia’ but unfortunately it hasn’t been saved .
From the institutions of Ancient Kea only some traditions have been saved such as the law of compulsory suicide with Konion of
old people when they reached up to a certain age, the so-called ‘legal Kion’

History
The Leon of Kea
One of the most important sights of Kea is the famous Leon of
Kea .
The Lion which is curved on a rock can be found following the
Ioulida pathway from Keas Hora.
The Lion is connected to a lot of legends and according to
some specialists it was made in the sixth century BC
Other scientists support that it is much older and that it
belongs to the ancient times .
In the region of Kastri, where Thalatta-Thalatta is situated , you
can also visit the monastery of Holy Mary’s of Kastri .
It is the guardian of the island and the monastery was founded
in 1700 AC.
It is situated in an awesome place and you can reach it through
a breathtaking route.
Around Kastri there are cliffs, sea caves and beaches which can
only be reached via boat.

The basic port which connects Kea with the rest of Greece is
the port of Lavrio which is situated in a distance of about 1
hour from Korrisia’s port.
Kea is also connected to Kythnos and Syros.
